Velda Jean Stearns

July 24, 1939 — January 24, 2023

Velda Jean Gordon Stearns of Hurst, TX passed from this life to the next into the loving arms of Jesus Christ her Savior and Lord at the age of 83.
She was born on July 24, 1939 in Caddo, Oklahoma to John and Lula Gordon. She graduated from Caddo High School at the age of 17 and graduated from Bethany Nazarene College at the age of 20.
After graduating with a degree in home economics, she started teaching at Barnsdall High School in Barnsdall, Oklahoma where she met her husband, Robert Kenneth Stearns at the local Dairy Queen. They were married shortly thereafter on March 30, 1961. They had four children: Keith, David, Michelle and Angela. They were married for 61 years, living over 40 of those years in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area.
Velda dedicated her life to serving and loving her family faithfully and had many hobbies and accomplishments. She loved to research and teach Bible studies at the various churches her and Bob attended faithfully.
She was also a piano teacher and a published author of two books, “Fulfilling the Feasts of Israel” and “From Antiquity to Eternity.” She also published many educational teaching resources including math games and puzzles. She was an avid card player and very competitive in a fun and loving way.
Velda will be missed by all those who knew and loved her, but we know that we will see her again in heaven.
Velda is preceded in death by her parents John and Lula Gordon and brothers Gary Dale and Glenn Gordon.
She is survived by her beloved husband Robert Kenneth Stearns of Hurst TX; son, Keith Stearns and wife, Wynter of Eau Claire WI; son, David Stearns and wife, Melody of Lewisville TX; daughter, Michelle Stearns Knapton and husband Brent of Houston TX; and daughter, Angela Stearns Pond and husband Russ of Euless TX. 12 grandchildren: Meghan Courtney and husband Matt, Seth Stearns and wife Janelle, Meredith McClure and husband Brandon, Christian Stearns, Luke Knapton, Marion Harllee and husband David, Caleb Pond, Tovi Stearns, Erik Knapton, Hannah Stearns, Michael Knapton and Brock Knapton and 8 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie O’Hern, her brother Harold Gordon, her sister Yvonne Birdsong and her sister Janis Chaffin all of Caddo, OK.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2pm on February 2, 2023 at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX.
Burial will be at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
