Virginia Ann Edmister, or Ginny to many who knew her, passed away on December 24, 2023 in Bedford, Texas at the age of 72 after a long battle with mesothelioma.
Ginny was born October 22, 1951 in Springfield, Missouri to her parents Oral William “Bud” Waldren and Virginia Allene Ray.
On April 12, 1970, Ginny married Lucian Doyle “Mickey” Flippin and worked so that Mickey could earn his degree from Southwest Missouri State University. Mickey’s work took them across the country many times before ending up in Hurst, Texas. Ginny and Mickey had two children, Simon and Dallas, before Mickey passed away at the age of 47.
On October 30, 1999, Ginny married Brian William Edmister and welcomed in her stepchildren, Brian William II, Abigail “Abbie,” and James Eric. After a lifetime of moving and transitions, she would spend her last 24 years supporting and celebrating her ever expanding family thanks to weddings and grandchildren.
Ginny was a survivor. She survived her parents’ house burning down when she was 2, leading to her family moving across the country. She survived the death of her brother, Billy, when she was 9. She survived the loss of her late husband Mickey, when she was just 46 years old. She survived breast cancer which she was diagnosed with at age 55. Despite the harshness of these experiences, she was known for her kindness. Her faith and love of Jesus gave her hope.
Ginny loved baking treats for her loved ones, playing the piano, listening to Gaither music, eating at Cracker Barrel, watching the Cowboys, taking care of her dogs, and mostly celebrating her kids and grandkids.
Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Allene, her brother, Billy, and her late husband Mickey.
Ginny is survived by her husband Brian, her children, Simon and Dallas, her step-children, Brian, Abbie, and Eric, her grandchildren, Brian, Andrew, Michaela, Emily, Ruby, Gwen, and Jane, and her great-grandchild, Liam.
