Virginia Ruth Nelson

Virginia Ruth Nelson, 89 of Fort Worth, Texas passed away June 22, 2021 at home. Virginia was born and raised in LaSalle, IL until she graduated LaSalle Peru High School class of 1950 and then married her husband, Oscar Nelson in 1952. They lived together and raised their family in Peoria IL and moved to Texas as fast as they could to be near their grandchildren.

Virginia worked for Bergner’s department store for many years, but she loved planning and taking vacations with her husband and children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing puzzles and games. She spent many summers sailing with Oscar on their sailboat at the Peoria yacht club. Her relaxation came from working in her yard and garden and it was always full of flowers especially roses. She was very proud of it and enjoyed walking people around to see what was blooming. In her later years, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them and going to all their academic and sporting activities. She always had a smile on her face and was rarely slowed down by weather or a tall set of bleachers. She passed her love of reading on to them and loved spending time talking with them.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Edna Geraci.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Oscar Nelson, her daughter Debbie Pow, her husband Dale Pow, her daughter Susan Nelson, her son Nels Nelson and his wife Carole Nelson, grandson Cameron Nelson and grandson Colton Nelson.
