Walter Scott Hoskins
September 18, 1930 – May 2, 2023

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Wanda Hoskins, brother Bruce Hoskins, sister Connie Wells, daughter Pam Hoskins, son Scott Hoskins and grandson, Scott Novak.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Hoskins of 41 years, brother Gary Hoskins and wife Gloria, daughter Carla Hoskins-Mayo and husband Frank, stepdaughter Karen Keith, stepson Robby Ritchey and wife Paula. Grandchildren are Stephanie Hoskins, Ashlee Keith, Jacob Keith, Megan Bang, Rachel Gardner and husband Josh, and Lauren Ritchey: great-grandchildren, Trayce, Kye and Kohen Keith and numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter was born in Hyden, Kentucky. His dad was a land attorney and his mother was a missionary/nurse. He grew up in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky with his parents, two brothers and one sister. They lived without electricity until he was about 10-12 years old. They lived about 5 miles out of town on the side of a river in an area called “tug point”. When Walter was very young, they got around by horse and buggy or on foot. He had many adventures with his siblings and told of one time there was still feuding in the area and his mother threw him on the ground to dodge bullets.
Walter attended a boarding High School which was part of Berea College, served in the US Army and Navy, Korean War and became a civil engineer after graduating from the University of Kentucky. Walter also had his surveyors license and became an expert on land and deeds in Kentucky.
Walter learned to turn wood while in High School and became a true artist in wood turning, making beautiful works of art from all kinds of trees. Walter’s shop teacher was Rude Osolnik who was a master woodturner and at one time ranked 7th best in the world. It was quite common to see a large piece of wood being transported on top of his old Ford Explorer. If he saw a fallen tree, that was a treasure waiting to be made. If he saw a largely rooted living tree, Walter did not mind asking if the owner would like him to remove it for him.
Walter and Elaine are members of CrossCreek Church in Colleyville. Walter was a very loving and kind person. He was always happy, very generous, and always willing to offer help to accommodate to the needs of others. He loved his family and would truly do anything for them. Walter was a wonderful husband, a great family man and we will miss him dearly.
