Wanda Fay Sharp was born in Bonham, Texas to Willie Clyde Gray and Mary LaRue Herd on August 2, 1937. She passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in McKinney, Texas.
Wanda had one brother, Delbert (Sonny) Gray and they lived in the Fort Worth area for most of her formative years. She attended Haslet Elementary School and met the love of her life when she was in the 3rd grade and he was in 5th. Jerrell Sharp and Wanda Gray were girlfriend and boyfriend all through school. They attended Northwest High School together and decided that they had found their mate for life. Shortly after Wanda graduated from high school, she and Jerrell were married on August 20th, 1955. They were married for 68 years. The Sharps set up their new home in Fort Worth, Texas but soon moved to West Texas where Jerrell worked in the oil fields. As they began to build their family in West Texas, Darrell Wayne, Penny Fay, Tracy Dan, and Gregory Scott were all born 2 ½ - 3 years apart. During this time, Wanda was a stay-at-home mom but also began decorating cakes for the public and eventually opened a bakery with a friend.
Wherever they called home, they were faithful member of the Church of Christ. In 1969, they moved their family to the Bedford, Texas area where they lived for over 50 years. Wanda continued to be a stay-at-home mom and was always involved with church work, scouts, PTA, and all the kids’ sports. She also helped the family financially with everything from toys and makeup sales, delivering phone books, throwing newspapers, and much more. Wanda impacted the lives of countless children as she drove a school bus for over 38 years for the H.E.B. and Grapevine/Colleyville school districts.
Beginning in 1978, the Sharps added to their family with 3 daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law, and 14 grandchildren. Those grandchildren have blessed them with 24 great grandchildren and three more coming next year. The most important thing to Wanda was God, Jerrell, and her kids. Family was everything to Wanda and she loved them all fiercely.
