Wanda Florine (Sparks) Stewart passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024.
Wanda was born July, 22, 1923 in Dallas, Texas and was the youngest of 2 daughters born to F.G. and Flora Sparks. Wanda grew up in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School, class of 1941.
She married her high school sweetheart James C. Stewart, Jr, on June 27, 1941. WWII started a few months later. James was a pilot for the Army Air Corps and Wanda worked as a supervisor in the parts department at TEMCO Aircraft Company in Dallas, a company building aircraft for the military and later became known as Lockheed-Martin. Wanda and James were married 64 years at the time of his passing in 2005.
Wanda and James and their 3 children Diane, Jan, and JC III moved to Austin in 1960. Wanda was a busy and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and home maker while raising her children. She was supportive of her husband, children and grandchildren’s interests and active in Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority.
Wanda returned to the workforce after her children were grown. She worked in administrative roles at the Scottish Rite Dormitory, Nixon-Clay College and the State Hearing Aid Board. She worked her way up the corporate ladder and ultimately retired as the Director of the State Hearing Aid Board in 1991. She then became a successful Real Estate Broker and earned many sales and leasing awards for JB Goodwin in Austin, working diligently and joyfully into her 90’s.
Wanda was 100 years old + 9 months at the time of her passing, and experienced a vast array of over a century of amazing life experiences. Wanda approached life with an energetic, positive spirit and a beautiful smile. She loved her family, friends, and coworkers dearly and was one of the “greats” of the “The Greatest Generation,” She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father FG Sparks, mother Flora Sparks, sister Odie Maxine Wheeler, father-n-law James C Stewart, Sr, mother-n-law Lorene Stewart, and husband James C Stewart, Jr., son in law Ray Smith of Grapevine, TX and son-in-law Bob Hammer of Sparks, NV.
She is survived by daughter Diane Stewart of San Antonio, daughter Jan Smith Luers (Dennis) of Grapevine, son JC Stewart of Austin; grandsons Loren Graham of Johnson City, Jimmie Stewart IV & Jason Stewart of Austin; great-grandsons Dean Graham of San Antonio and Jameson & Jase Stewart of Corpus Christi; along with nieces Jacquie Kirk of Prague, Ok and Debbie Guins (Tommy) of Plano.
A Celebration of Life for Wanda will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 1:00pm in the Austin Country Club located at 4508 Long Champ Drive, Austin, TX 78746
