Wanda "Jean" Urquhart

September 6, 1927 — January 27, 2019

Wanda Jean Urquhart, 91, went to be with the Lord after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's on January 27, 2019 in Hurst, Texas.

She was born on September 6, 1927 in Queen City, Texas, the eldest of five children. She worked as a bookkeeper for twenty years. She was an excellent seamstress, designing and making much of her children's' clothes. She enjoyed filling a room with music, playing instruments and singing joyfully.

A devoted wife, she and her husband lived in Hurst, Texas for over 45 years. As a lover of gardening, she could most often be found planting and tending to her flowers at the corner of Harrison Lane and Keith Drive. Wanda Jean was a strong woman who always called it just like she saw it without reservation. She always took pride in carrying herself as a lady, always dressing sharp and a noticeable addition to any group of people she happened to be around. She had a potent, unbending personality that she wore as an outer layer, with a soft, smiling heart underneath, which she showed to those she loved and held close.

In her later years, she developed Alzheimer's and valiantly fought the good fight, often smiling cheerfully despite her condition, cherishing the present despite losing the past. With her daughter Caroline by her side as primary caretaker for seven years, they laughed together, they cried together, they shared life with one another and became more than mother and daughter — they became best friends. Throughout her life, she maintained a close relationship with God, remaining a faithful servant until her last breath.

The family would like to express appreciation to the caretakers at Hurst Plaza Nursing and Rehabilitation for providing loving and committed care the last few years of Wanda Jean's life.

She is predeceased by her husband, Lee R. Urquhart; brothers, Grady Hufstetler, Jr. and Kenneth Ray Hufstetler; and sister, Maureen Gibbons. She is survived by two daughters, Caroline Hollander and Mary Anne Biggs and her husband, Al Biggs; her son, Lloyd David Claiborne and his wife, Anita Claiborne; her brother, James Hufstetler and wife Martha Jane Hufstetler; grandchildren, Garrett Hollander, Thomas Biggs and Alva Wayne Biggs; great grandchildren, Aiden and Hollis Hollander, and Alex, Joey and Brandon Biggs as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family who loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Lucas Funeral Home 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, Texas 76053.

Funeral Services to be held 10:00 AM on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Lucas Funeral Home, followed by graveside service and interment in the Garden of Peace at Bluebonnet Hills in Colleyville, Texas.
