Will Reid

Wilbur (Will) Reese Reid, 86, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024. Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, December 19 at Lucas Funeral Home from 5-7 pm. The address is 1601 S Main Street in Keller. The funeral will be on Friday, December 20 at 10 am at Lucas Funeral Home. The burial will follow the funeral at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville with full military honors.

Will was born on September 4, 1938, to Whit and Ruby Reid. He was born at home, which was about 11 miles northeast of Electra, Texas, in Harrold Texas, near the Red River. Dr. King of Harrold, Texas, was the attending Physician. He was the youngest of 10 children and adored his siblings and parents, who have all preceded him in death. Will attended school in Harrold until the 8th grade but then moved to Electra where he graduated in 1957. It was in Electra where he met his future wife, Geneva Weddle.

Will entered the Army in May of 1958 with two friends under the “buddy system.” After basic training in Fort Hood, Texas, he was stationed in Friedberg, Germany. Upon his return from Germany, on October 29, 1960, he married his beloved sweetheart, Ginny. He and Geneva truly enjoyed their numerous travels and the many friends they made while he served in the military. While on active duty, he was stationed at many places including Greenland, Vietnam, the Pentagon, Headquarters, European Command in Stuttgart Germany, and the National Security Agency, Ft. Meade, Maryland. Will and his family spent an extensive time stationed on the East Coast and had fond memories of their time there. He attended Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia, and was always hardworking. Although he had been promoted early and was pretty much assured of attaining a higher rank, he decided to retire in November of 1980 at age 42 to pursue a new career. After 22 years in the Army, his final ranking was Lieutenant Colonel. Will obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from The University of Nebraska. In addition, he almost completed his Masters degree but decided to withdraw from the program to be more present with his family. He initially obtained a Real Estate license but soon went to work for a developer and builder supervising sales and construction. Within a year, Will formed his own construction company and commenced building custom homes.

He started his own company, Waterford Class Homes Inc., which has maintained a distinguished reputation and is now owned by his son, Greg, and daughter-in-law, Rachel. He prided himself on building homes of exceptional quality while providing a reasonable price for satisfied buyers. He was proud to have never had an unhappy homeowner. His homeowners trusted him to be there for them and their home-owning needs long after their house was built. During his 25 plus years in the building industry, he built several hundred homes in the DFW area. Will loved all aspects of learning. He was brilliant and his mind was a vast book of knowledge. He loved learning about topics such as how the universe was formed, medicine, and especially world history. He had a large personal library ranging from the Classics to Zane Grey. He was the happiest when he and Geneva were on one of their numerous foreign or stateside trips. Geneva was his whole world. He would have done anything for her and their love for over 64 years was absolutely beautiful.

Will was everything to his family. He rarely asked for anything for himself, always prioritizing others and seeking ways to help them. He was the most amazing patriarch and as a family, we are eternally grateful for all of his hard work and sacrifices. He has left a lasting legacy, and we will miss him every single day.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Reid, children Greg Reid and his wife Rachel, Michelle Wylie and husband Randall,  grandchildren Chris Sims, Nick Sims and his wife Carolynn, Ashley Soukup and her husband Price, Hillary Wylie, Sara Reid, Jenna Reid, and Nathan Reid, great-grandchildren Niko Sims, Crosby Soukup, and 2 additional great-grandsons who will be born in 2025, sister-in-law Joyce Reid, brother-in-law Lawerence Weddle, sister-in-law Janette Bentley and sister-in-law Georgetta Weddle. In addition, many nieces and nephews and valued close friends.
