William Douglass Deering, a cherished educator and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on December 18, 1933, Fort Worth, he spent his formative years in Burleson, where he developed a passion for learning and teaching.

William dedicated an impressive 42 years of his life to the University of North Texas as a professor, sharing his deep knowledge and love for physics with countless students. His legacy as a passionate educator is evident in the lives he touched throughout his remarkable career.

He was known for his generous and loving nature, complemented by a unique sense of humor that made him a joy to be around. William was not only hardworking and intelligent but also dedicated to his family, instilling a love of learning in his children and grandchildren. His hobbies, which included cooking, staying abreast of new advances in science, and indulging in his love for baseball and college football, showcased his vibrant personality and varied interests. In addition, he found joy in woodworking and target practice, activities that reflected his hands-on approach to life.

William is survived by his sister Alicia DuVall, his children Catherine York and Susan Deering-Frank, and his grandchildren Shelby Ray, Colby Hansen, Carly York, Adelle York, Lauren York, Avery Deering-Frank, and Aidan Deering-Frank. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren Birdie Hansen and Wiley Carel, who will fondly remember their time spent with him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carlene Deering, daughter Nancy Hansen, and siblings Robert Deering, Winifred Reese, and Sharian Deering.

A graveside service to honor William's life will be held on February 21, 2025, at Burleson Memorial Cemetery in Burleson, Texas. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at 11:30 AM.

William Douglass Deering’s kindness and intellect will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His contributions to education and the unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered and celebrated.
