William Kimsey Johnston

William K. Johnston, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in Bedford, Texas.
Graveside Service: 11:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov.12 at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, 700 W. Wall St. Grapevine, TX.
He was born on April 4, 1928 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Robert Charles and Winnie Johnston. He grew up in Chattanooga until his service in the Army Air Corp/Air Force from 1946 to 1953. During his military career, Mr. Johnston served as an aircraft mechanic in post-World War II Japan, in Germany flying in the Berlin Airlift, and at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas where he helped maintain B-36 bombers for the Strategic Air Command.
After his military service, Mr. Johnston married the love of his life, Janet Turner Johnston and went to work for American Airlines in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area. During this time, he resided in Irving, Texas and later in Euless, TX. After a 37 year career with American Airlines, Mr. Johnston and his wife enjoyed their retirement years in Mineola, Texas. In retirement, Mr. Johnston enjoyed working in his garden, fishing, volunteering at the Mineola League of Arts and Mineola Meals on Wheels, as well as traveling with his wife. More importantly, Mr. Johnston enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Johnston enjoyed a 57 year marriage to his wife Janet, until her death in August 2010.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Johnston and Richard Johnston, and his sister Edna Bray.
He is survived by his three sons; Kenneth Patterson and wife Carla of Corpus Christi, Texas, William K. Johnston Jr. and wife Lori of Euless, Texas, and Daryl Johnston and wife Karin of Euless, Texas; seven grandchildren; Shawn Patterson, Myria Patterson, Brett Patterson, Jesse Patterson, Melissa Johnston, Samantha Vogel, Brad Vogel; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
