William “Bill” Guy Stoner

Bill Stoner, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on December 10, 2020 in Southlake, Texas due to complications with Leukemia. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend to all that knew him. He was born on December 16, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan to William Earl Stoner and Grace (Wheeler) Stoner.
Bill graduated in 1954 from Arthur Hill High School where he excelled in speed skating and track. In fact, he was a state speed skating champion at the young age of 11 and continued to skate and run track at Michigan State University where he met Mary Jane Annis. After graduation in 1958, Bill and Mary Jane married on July 26, 1958 and soon after, Bill commissioned as an officer in the US Navy. Together Bill and Mary Jane raised three children, Billy, Bobby and Kimberly. Bill was a dedicated father who always had time for his children and wholeheartedly supported them in all their endeavors.
He retired as a US Navy Reserve Captain with 28 years of military service. He served as the Commander of Third Fleet Naval Reserve Detachment and Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet Reserve Detachment. During the Vietnam era, he was assigned to Carrier Division Seven, as the Air Intelligence Targeting Officer. This included briefing the highest-ranking officer in the Navy on multiple occasions. During his time in the Navy, Captain Stoner was assigned to eleven different aircraft carriers and had the honor and privilege of serving under seven different admirals.
After completing his military career, Bill owned and operated three A&W Restaurants throughout Hawaii. After his restaurant business venture, he joined his wife, Mary Jane, Principal Broker of Malia Limited Real Estate office in Kailua where Bill managed the property management division.
Bill was an avid golfer and up to the time of his stroke, almost 6 years ago, worked out at the gym 3 days a week. Bill completed 3 Honolulu Marathons. His last marathon, at the age of 57 he completed in 5 hours 45 minutes.
He also volunteered his time as Head Score Keeper 3 years in a row for the LPGA Lotte Golf Tournament in Hawaii.
In 2016 Bill moved to Texas to be near his grandchildren and dedicated his time to attending every event and activity no matter how hot or cold or how far he had to travel. As a husband, father and grandfather, he was always ready to help and his love was expressed in the many things he did for them.

He loved us all, as we love him, even today, as we honor his life.

Bill is survived by wife Mary Jane Stoner of Kaneohe HI, Son William Stoner of Keller TX, Son Robert Stoner of Tucson AZ, and Grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew, and Kimberly. He was preceded in death by daughter Kimberly Malia Stoner. The visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on December 19 at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 19 at Lucas Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Hawaiian Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society.
