Willis graduated from Texhoma High School, Texhoma, OK in 1960. On December 21, 1962 Willis graduated from Oklahoma State University of Technology in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heating. After graduation Willis and his wife, Anna, moved to Dallas where he accepted a job with TD Industries as a service tech. Willis retired from TD after 53 years, during this time he helped shape and develop the service operation in many different roles. He worked as a A/C Service Technician, as a Sales Representative in the wholesale department, an HVAC Service Manager, and Senior Vice President of Dallas Service. Willis was known for the respectful way he treated his customers and fellow workers. He served on the Board of Directors at Oklahoma State University Tech for many years and was a member of the Texas Air Conditioning Contractors of America (TACCA) where he was voted a Vice President then President.
He along with Charlie Cosper coached a great group of women in Women's Slow Pitch Softball, during the years they won many tournaments State and National. Willis enjoyed all types of sports, but the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys had his full support. One of his greatest passions was motor cycle riding. Along with his second wife, Carletta "Gidget", they traveled in 26 states on their Gold Wing with many of their cycle friends. He also made trips with his sons, Lance and Shannon. Other enjoyments he had was playing Poker, shooting Pool, Dancing, listening to country music, having family and friends over for a cookout, and just riding around to new places (He would always say, "Right on schedule, Honey"). He also had a fun loving alter ego known as "Johnny Horsefeathers". Willis and Carletta shared a wonderful venturous life. His fellow workers got a kick out of how he would call her each and every morning at the same time every day just to make sure she wakes up in time to get to work and to say he loved her!
