Wilma Margrete Harper Ayers was born on November 30, 1937, the youngest of five children, in Fort Worth, Texas. She married and moved to Lakeside in 1960. It was there that she raised her two children, Everett and Celinda.
Wilma was known for her generous spirit. The holidays were often spent wrapping present after present for those who may not have received a gift. She wanted to be sure no child woke up on Christmas morning without a gift under the tree.
Her benevolence was also extended to animals. She enjoyed caring for cats and dogs.
Wilma also had a competitive side where visits were often spent playing dominoes, board games or cards. She played to win! She also loved playing bingo, jigsaw puzzles and word searches.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ethel and Willie Harper, Sr; sister Willie Mae Butcher; brothers Henry, J.W. and Gilbert.
On March 11, 2024 Wilma went home to be with Lord. She is survived by: son Everett Ayers and his beloved Lisa; daughter Celinda Sowell and her husband Charles and granddaughter, Faith Sowell.
