Yolanda Castellon Herrera, 61, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Heritage Place Assisted Living and Memory Care in Burleson. A visitation and celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home, 518 SW Johnson Ave, in Burleson. There will be no burial service.
Yolanda was born July, 27,1959 in La Union, Jalisco, Mexico to Domingo and Marie Castellon. She grew up in Niland and Calipatria, CA. She graduated from Calipatria High School in 1978. After high school, she attended the Early Childhood Education program at Imperial Valley Community College in El Centro, CA where she received an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She began work for several Pre-Schools from Southern CA, Northern Virginia, to Oklahoma where she eventually retired after 35 total years.
Yolanda married Xavier Herrera in 1991 in Yuma, AZ. They were happily married for 29 years. She was a member of Holy Family Church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and knitting.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her mother, Maria and her father, Domingo.
Yolanda is survived by her husband, Xavier Herrera of Trinidad, TX; daughter, Nina Alonzo and husband, Kenneth of Burleson, TX; step-son Xavier Herrera, Jr. of Austin, TX; daughter, Alexandra Herrera of Front Royal, VA; brothers, Jose Castellon of Los Angeles, CA; Julian Castellon, of Oceanside, CA, Luis Castello, of Los Angeles CA, and Richard Castellon; sisters, Rose Mercado of Calipatria, CA and Sally Leigh of Yuma, AZ; grandchildren, Isaac Alonzo and Emily Alonzo; several nieces and nephews. Yolanda also has several aunts and uncles who reside in California, Arizona, Washington State, and Mexico.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the staff of Heritage Place Assisted Living and Memory Care, and Encompass Hospice. Yolie will always be remembered for being a loving, tender, caring person who personified the following verse: “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18
