Yvonne Grace Rau passed away in the morning on Monday, June 13th, in hospice hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born in Castor, Alberta, Canada on August 22, 1937 and would have turned 85 on her birthday in August.
Grace met her husband, Larry Rau, at Hillcrest Bible School in Alberta, and they were married in November 1960 after she had completed her nurses’ training in Medicine Hat. Grace and Larry trained with Wycliffe Bible Translators in North Dakota and Mexico, and served with Wycliffe for 39 years in India, Peru, Colombia, Calgary, Miami, and Dallas.
Grace was a lover of the written word, and she and Larry had a book collection to be envied. She also loved shells and rocks, which she picked up from all over the world. There never was a body of water that she didn’t want to get her feet into. She touched the Arctic Ocean, the Pacific and Atlantic (in North and South America), and many lakes, rivers and streams. Grace also touched the lives of many people over the course of her life. She loved God, and showed that love by reaching out to the people around her.
Grace is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Larry Rau, and by her parents, Charles and Lucy Anderson. She is also preceded in death by her still-born older sister, and younger sisters Ruth Sieppert and Kathy Anderson.
Grace is survived by her daughter Cheryl Stanley (Conway, AR) and granddaughter Katharine Stanley (Denver, CO); daughter Cindy Rau (Fort Worth, TX), and son Jeff Rau and his wife Carra, and grandson Eric Rau (Euless, TX). She is also survived by her brothers Dennis (Kathy) of Ontario, and Ken (Angie) of British Columbia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9th at 2:00 pm at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. You are welcome to attend the service with us, and to celebrate the life of Grace Rau.
