In recent years, pet owners have been turning to alternative methods of aftercare, such as aquamation.

Aquamation is a process that uses water instead of fire to return a body to mother nature. Read below to learn more about this eco-friendly and gentle method of pet cremation in Fort Worth. Lucas Funeral Homes and Cremation Services can provide compassionate support during your time of loss.

Understanding Aquamation

Aquamation also known as water cremation is a green method of disposition unlike the conventional method of cremation. This involves putting your pet inside a container with water and alkali which is stirred to help the body to decompose naturally. This is left as ashes which can be buried, scattered or stored in an urn.

Here's why you may want to consider pet cremation in Fort Worth:

  • Environmentally friendly: In conventional burial, bad gases are let off to the atmosphere, but, in aquamation, there are no wrong emissions to the air.
  • Gentle process: In contrast to conventional cremation, which exposes pets to heat and flames, aquamation is relatively more soothing, and its process may well provide solace to pet owners who would like their pets euthanized with dignity.
  • More ashes: After aquamation, it is possible to get up to 20% of an animal’s ashes while using the fire-based cremation, which is very ideal for pet owners who want a bigger portions of the remains for memorial displays.

What Happens During Aquamation?

Our professionals at Lucas Funeral Homes and Cremation Services can help guide you through the aquamation process through our friends at Peaceful Pets.

Here's a general overview of how it works:

  • Preparation: Your pet is gently placed in a special aquamation container with tags or identifying materials meticulously removed.
  • Aquamation: The body is very gently broken down over several hours in an alkali solution in a vessel of water, and the container is placed in this.
  • Drying: These remaining ashes are dried by the crematory and then processed to a fine powder that, again, looks like traditional cremated remains.
  • Return of ashes: Upon cremation, the owner will be given the ashes in the container of their choice. We can also help with scattering or other types of pet memorials.

Keeping Track of Your Pet's Remains

Keeping track of the ashes is an important part of aquamation. This ensures that the remains returned to you belong to your beloved pet and not someone else's. Peaceful Pets has a strict tracking system in place to ensure that the ashes are handled with utmost care and respect. We know that these remains hold a special place in your heart and we want to honor that.
